Extrovert who has a hard time making friends

Hello,

My teen child has ASD (mild) and is an extrovert. He is not shy about talking to people, however, and can make new friends that way. The problem is keeping these friends, as they all eventually stop wanting to hang out with him since he doesn't read social cues well and has a tendency to talk about things people aren't interested in.

Just wondering if other autistic extroverts also have a hard time keeping friends? He does social skills therapy once a week, but still has a lot more to learn. Any advice you can give him? It breaks my heart to see him try so hard and not have any long-term friends. Thank you!
