how do you feel about the term “special education”?

i’ve been thinking about how the term “special” almost always has a negative connotation when assigned to disabled people. i’ve been in special education most of my life and have never liked the phrasing, even as a kid. personally i think the term should be changed to “disability oriented education” or something similarly neutral. how do you feel about “special education”?
