Visiting Vancouver, What To Do/General Advice

Hi guys! I am visiting my significant other for about a week and a half in February around Valentine's Day, and I am looking for something affordable and romantic(ish) that we could do in or around Vancouver! He is new to the city and I am visiting from Texas, so I have no idea what to expect when it comes to weather.

I have visited a few times, but only in summer and early fall, and we were pretty limited with our time back then so we didn't get to do much that the city has to offer.

We are outdoorsy types, but winter conditions are foreign to me as most of my hiking has been in fair weather.

If we want to go hiking up in Squamish will we need snow tires/chains to drive up there?

Are there any local restaurants/cafes that you recommend? Any cool bars, thrift stores, etc?

He's located near UBC, so if there's anything nearby, maybe in Kitsilano, please let me know!
