Fellas, is it weird to talk to girls?

Soooo some context, I go to a Christian private high school with about 200 students in secondary (Middle school and high school). Its a mixed school. So guys and girls are in the same classes. Well, some people from both side have this fear of the opposite sex.

Well, I am friends with this one Russian kid, lets call him D. D avoids girls every chance he gets. He will only talk to them if he is in the same group as them for work. And even then, he complains every chance he gets. I am best firends with D, and he is in our friend group. Well, This year I started talking to the girls in my class. Some like it more then others, and that's fine. Hell, some of the girls are worried im gonna take their friend way from them, so they interrupt our conversation. Its very weird how they seem to dislike me for wanting to expand outside my social circle.

Back to D, he told me today how he and K (Another Russian classmate who D is very close with.) found it weird that I wanted to talk to the girls at all, why not just stick with the boys? I was baffled by this, I have always had female friends, sometimes desiring thier company more then the boys.

I try to argue back, saying its normal, but D and K just say im weird and being a simp. All for wanting to talk to girls.

So, is it weird to talk to girls?
