Why are tourist/customers so mean now? What happened?

I’m a barista in downtown. I work at a relatively busy cafe, especially on Saturdays. I just don’t understand why that wave of “I’m so sorry about Helene I’m going to support you” faded away so quickly? A month or so ago people were so kind and patient….now they’re jerks…. :///
