Manager is not well in the head
I’ve been working with a former coworker at his agency, which officially launched in September 2024. However, we both previously worked in a toxic environment with a boss who was completely unpredictable—she never took responsibility, lacked communication, and was highly disorganized. He left in July 2023, and I quit shortly after. He then reached out, inviting me for a drink, where he shared his idea of starting his own agency. He asked me to join him, knowing that I worked hard and was business-savvy. We spent nearly a year prepping for the launch.
Once the agency officially launched, I started to see a different side of him. I’m not sure if it’s due to stress or the pressures of owning a business, but he became unreasonable. He would give me a role for two weeks, expect immediate and extreme results, then quickly switch to another role and demand results within two days. Since the industry I'm in relies heavily on connections, and I’m still relatively new to it, I haven't made many yet—especially compared to his seven years of experience and his well-established network. He finally started making decent connections, but while I may not have the same connections yet, I’m confident in my abilities, and I know it takes time to build them.
He often talks to me about my lack of communication, especially when we’re at a booking table, saying things need to be discussed in real-time. Yet when I try to communicate with him, he says he’s too busy with other matters and doesn’t need to discuss things with me. He tells me I should take responsibility for my own tasks. But when I take initiative, he questions my decisions or wonders why I didn’t discuss them with him first.
At this point, I’m left wondering—am I doomed if I stay at this agency?
