Not paying people a livable wage is evil

It really boggles my mind thinking about how so many companies and corporations refuse to respect their employees by offering decent wages, good benefits, and protection. It’s a shame how expendable people are to these companies. For Christmas at my job, we got cups and emails about how sales were up. Ridiculous! All I could think was, “Where the fuck is my pay raise!!” The CEO of where I work makes upwards a million dollars a year and we can’t get a livable wage.

The whole “money doesn’t bring happiness” thing is such a cop out and feels so manipulative. Money isn’t just worthless paper. It allows you to be able to afford healthcare, transportation, quality food, quality housing, childcare, medication, clothes, mental health resources, life insurance, ffs money even allows you to have a decent funeral and be buried in a decent casket when you die, they even make money off of that! Money allows you to have options, stability, security. To deny people of that feels so evil to me.

There is a quote from one of my favorite shows that goes like this when talking about the difference between the poor and wealthy: “Rich people lose capital. Poor people die.” I think that explains it all.
