Why did Chris lie to investigators about such trivial things?

In a lot of ways, I do wish that the case had gone to trial. We would have gotten so much more information from it, plus Chris would have been forced to stand before a judge and jury about what he did instead of taking the easy way out.

One question I’ve always wondered is why Chris Watts continued to lie over trivial facts, one example being when/where he killed the girls. It isn’t something where it would necessarily change the manner of the crime or even make himself look better to the public. It’s just so weird to lie about. Thoughts/ideas?
