Had UPS driver take my outgoing package but didn't get scanned?

UPS delivered a package to me and i had a outgoing package and asked him if he would take it and save me a trip going to the UPS store. He was kind enough to take the package for me, that was pre labeled with a UPS shipping label, but when i entered the tracking number it says UPS doesn't have possession of the package yet. I thought the driver would scan the package he was taking but apparently this didn't happen.

Is this normal?
