Does anyone have their own visa and how does it work?

I'm trying to figure out how to get my own UAE visa but am finding different information online.

Is there any way to purchase my own UAE residents visa, I don't have my own company or a sponsor and I still want to be able to work.

I'm looking at part time and freelance work but haven't started yet. My visa from my employer has been cancelled and i still still a couple of months before it expires.

Can anyone point me in the right direction and let me know the costs.
