No Public Transportation on Christmas
I just saw that there will be no public transportation on Christmas, is this normal? Does this happen every Christmas. London is a major metropolitan city and to hear no buses or trains for a full 24 hours is ridiculous. Do they expect people to just stay inside. The city still operates on Christmas so how are people supposed to get to work?
Edit: this was removed but as someone who is new to London to have NO public transportation on Christmas day for a city as big as London is wild. Hospital staff need to get to work, airports still operate, jobs still require some people to come in. The fact that people are like "oh well ride a bike or call an Uber" is more crazy to me. It's just accepted like yeah, no TFL on Christmas. Looool.
Edit: I know people get paid Overtime but UK is also a country where a lot of people get paid monthly. And if you have already been paid and say for instance you work in a children's shelter, making 28k a year, you gotta come out of pocket to get to work and you will be paid back next January. I get it, people need the day off but I am positive if you offer some bus and tube workers double paid time to work they will happily. People need to get places. I didn't think so many people would be against workers getting to work for cheap as opposed to getting a cab during this cost of living crisis. I'm from Toronto, and my mom used to work in a woman's shelter on Christmas growing up. If she had to bike to work or take a cab to work, there would be no point in going in because the money you make you spend most of it to get to work. Scarborough to the west end, naw.
