Hatable villains because of how realistic they are

  1. Jimmy from Mouthwashing - a pathological narcissist and abuser who SA’s the only female crew member Anya onboard the Tulpar, is spiteful to his friend Curly for his position as captain and is implied to be emotionally abusive towards him. Once he discovers that Anya is pregnant he “takes responsibility” by crashing the Tulpar to avoid facing the consequences for his actions back on Earth and assume the position as captain after Curly is seriously injured from the crash. Is a man obsessed with wanting to try and come out as the good guy out of the situation who’s negligence and breaching of boundaries leads to him drugging and later killing the older crew member Swansea and letting the youngest crew member Daisuke to get seriously injured in an electrical vent to where he needed to be mercy killed. He tries to absolve himself of his misdeeds by keeping Curly alive (who is so injured by the crash that he can’t speak and is in constant pain) by feeding him his own leg and later freezing him in the only functioning cryopod before killing himself, leaving Curly to take the fall for everything that has happened on the Tulpar (assuming anyone finds the ship before power fully depletes from the pod.)

  2. Ted Faro from the Horizon series - a Silicon Valley tech trillionaire and “richest man in the world”who through hubris, stupidity and arrogance, dooms humanity to extinction by creating self-replicating, biomass-consuming killer robots with no kill switch called the Faro Plague that results in a grey goo scenario. When the robots grow out of control and other scientist Elizabeth Sobeck tries to make a contingency plan to deactivate the Plague and repopulate the Earth with life using an AI called GAIA through Project Zero Dawn, Ted kills off the Alphas (the designers of GAIA’s subroutines) and deletes APOLLO, the subroutine dedicated to collecting and sharing all of human history to the next generation of humans, because he didn’t want to be remembered as the man who doomed all of mankind. There’s a bit more to him though (I haven’t played Forbidden West), but he’s essentially an Elon Musk analog surrounded by yes men who not only doomed humanity to total annihilation but also erased the last remnants of human history just to avoid being remembered as the man who’s ego led to the death of humanity and irrevocably fucked the world, dooming the next generation to go back to living a tribal and nomadic era with no knowledge of what led the world to become what it is now.
