Lingering Questions (End of Season 1)

  1. Are the “hallucinations” of a real bear in season 1 meant to represent Mike’s ghost and the reason Carmy doesn’t have them in season 2 is because he no longer feels guilty about his brother’s death?

  2. Several times it’s mentioned that Mike took the loan because he was looking to franchise. Did he plan to open a new restaurant with Carmy (maybe using the Beef branding) or did he plan to gut and give the beef a facelift (what happens in season 2)?

  3. When Carmy hears Mike telling him that he’s “better than this place” and “let it rip” it seems like this is meant to encourage Carmy to not give up despite things being tough at the beef. Yet, he’s also heard talking about the name for their new place and “I want to set this place on fire”. What is Carmy supposed to take from those (they almost sound like Mike telling Carmy to give up on the beef).

  4. What do the receipts say when Carmy’s hallucinating in the season 1 finale (they cut away from those so quickly that I can’t read them)?
