Wtf happened to the turtle event ?

Yesterday the event said there was one day and 6 hours left. I was going to use all the event books on upgrade material for don if I couldn't get enough to unlock splinter with today's shredder fight. But today I logged on and the event is just gone. All that unspent event stuff gone and I got 50 gold in return.....so wtf ?
