For what reason is this?

In Sonic 3, Sonic and Shadow are on the moon and breathe in space perfectly fine even without their super forms, but when Tails goes out in space, he holds his breath and even passes out from the lack of oxygen later. Why can Sonic and Shadow breathe in space but Tails can't?
