Income Resources while waiting?

What resources or programs did you use while you were waiting to be approved for ssdi?

My dad (60, m)is trying to get approved but started the process only 3 months ago. He has a very complicated medical situation, and can’t get back to work, but also doesn’t qualify for unemployment. My parents are starting to struggle with bills and rent , but it’s too expensive to get out of their lease and find cheaper rent.
