Roommate left without paying

(Texas) Do I have any legal recourse for a roommate who left without paying their half of rent? They fled the state after telling me they paid their share and I found a new roommate (lease is the same no names added or removed) but I found out they left me with over 500 dollars worth of back rent. Honestly my fault I know but I would like to get that money or at least get back at them for being shitty.
