What's the lowest grossing movie you've seen in the theater?
The boys always talk about theaters being dead and moopies flopping, but I'm curious what are the smallest, most obscure things you've seen in theaters? This was just a random thought but thought it might be kind of a fun discussion.
For me, as far as ones with reported grosses:
Young Plato - $41,016 - Really solid documentary about a school in Ireland where the start of lockdown serves as the halfway point. Not super plot heavy, just shows them trying to teach these kids how to approach life through a more philosophical lens, but watching kids this young slowly stumble in the right direction of critical thought was really interesting.
Moon Garden - $57,757 One of the most visually interesting films I've seen in ages and absolutely brimming with amazing practical effects, sets, costumes, props, etc. Really has a rough-around-the-edges indie feel to it, some cheesy parts but the imagination on display here is more than worth the price of admission.
Divinity - $102,891 - Maybe doesn't count because I walked out after 20 minutes, this was fucking awful. Was someone's attempt to just make weird vibey sci-fi sequences without a plot, they even bragged about not having a script but once you see the movie it's less impressive and more just a given.
Small Engine Repair: $110,995 Actually a very enjoyable dark comedy best experienced knowing absolutely nothing about it. I went in totally blind and had a great time. Honestly surprised this never found a cult audience on streaming because it definitely feels like the kind of thing that would've had it come out 15-20 years ago. This feels like something that should be in a Blockbuster case.
Eternal Spring: $172,636 - Saw this without knowing anything about it because I heard it was an animated documentary, turned out to be literal propaganda for a weird Chinese religion. Fun!
