Literally unpopular opinion: you are all wildly overreacting
I‘m so confused with the reaction to the monetization news. And let me tell you I’m not 100% happy with it either, but it’s so extreme and lacks any nuance.
Before people accuse me of defending anything reynad does, let me say that I completely agree that he can be a dick and/or come off as egotistic/ belittling.
First let’s talk about nuance and different degrees of p2w. I find it incredibly disingenuous to throw everything in the same pot. There is clash of clans and there is battle grounds hero selection. Those are wildly different and the ignorant way of discussing them is to just call it p2w. That’s just crazy.
I do understand that there is some magical boundary and if any monetization aspect changes the average win percentage by just 0.1% it technically counts as p2w. People will feel offended by that and that’s fair in my opinion. But the threads, complaints and comments are so wild and without any nuance. Like trying to refund your 30$ founders pack, are you kidding me??? Claiming that the game will die and it’s a last cash grab??? This is so delusional. And these comments have 50+ upvotes…
Let’s think a little bit more nuanced. First we haven’t even seen it play out. How about waiting a little bit. I’m not saying to not criticize, but don’t go mental. The assumption is that the card expansions will have better cards and people without them will be disadvantaged. Let’s assume that’s true. The first expansion for a hero adds 10% of cards. Reynad has talked again and again about the idea of the bazaar having so many items that each run will eventually feel truly unique. Maybe that first expansion will have a big impact. After a month f2p players get the same expansion. Every following expansion will literally have a smaller impact every time. Over time this effect will become smaller and smaller. Also there are still different heroes. If you play Dooley nothing has changed. And next season maybe Dooley gets an expansion and then you can play with the new Vanessa items that are most up to date…
Again. I don’t think everything is good. For me the biggest offense is that there are 2 different ‚subscriptions‘ needed to get everything. I was hoping there would be just one battle pass/premium pass for 10-15$ and that’s it. I don’t like the idea of having to buy several ‚subscriptions‘… Also, I do agree. Any win percentage boost will matter for competitive players. But let’s be real. 99.9% of players can improve their win percentage way more by improving and learning rather than by buying the expansions one month early. It’s not like clash of clans or whatever where you can be as smart as you want but won’t be able to compete because of p2w. Maybe if you’re going for top 100 it will matter. But it won’t matter if you are top 2000 or not even mythic/legend (whatever it’s called)
Just relax a little bit and let it play out. If you wanna quit, go for it. Nobody will stop you. But let’s try to discuss with a little more maturity
