Friend’s phone doesn’t have a stepcounter

Hello! New to the Reddit, first post. Huge Pikmin fan. I have an inquiry.

My brother-in-law says they want to download Pikmin Bloom, but that their (Android) phone doesn’t track steps and therefore cannot use the app. I was googling potential workarounds but haven’t discovered anyone else having this problem.

Does anyone here know anything about it? They love Pikmin and want to play it with their fiancé (my brother). Thanks!
