TAKE IT TO THE VET, MY GOSH
EDIT:
Hi all!
I’ve chatted with lots of you (there are hundreds of comments so I can’t answer everyone), and I want to clarify some things, say sorry for my ignorance and add some advice on where to reach for vets while paying less.
- I just wanted to say to you all, that calling a vet is a smarter move than chatting online if something might be life threathening and you’re seriously in doubt. Of course, for minor cases, things like Reddit and the internet in common are great! YAY for sharing knowledge and experience, for community and for asking help! 🫶🏼 I just meant, that a VET can help you better in most cases, and I THOUGHT calling a vet was FREE, everywhere. I did not know however that calling a vet for free advice isn’t possible in some countries. That sucks! I’m so sorry. My vet is wonderful, takes the phone day and night, I can text her pictures or videos, etc. I did not know that that wasn’t the reality elsewhere. Blissful ignorance.
— Alternative advice I gained from kind people in the comments 🫶🏼
By Starlight—— : “In case it helps anyone. I pay $5 a month for a vet I can chat through the app “Kinship” (formerly The Kin, but they merged with Wildest). For these kinds of questions where you’re just checking in to see if things are normal or if you need to go in, it’s really helpful. You can also schedule a phone call. I used them all the time when I had a new puppy.”
By EeveeQueen15 : “There is an Ask Vet subreddit that would be more appropriate for vet questions. Besides, many apps and subscriptions also have it set up so you can talk to a vet when something is wrong, but you aren’t sure if a vet visit is necessary. Pet Cube does this and Walmart+ does this with Pawp. They might be American. (PetCube makes security cameras so pet owners can check on their pets while they’re away. The app lets them talk to a vet if needed. Pawp is a service I got through Walmart+.) There are so many resources now for vet help.”
By autonomous-grape : “Good to have animal posion control number (8884264435) on hand if you’re in the US. They charge about $100 and they’ll tell you if what your dog ate requires a trip to the emergency vet or if it’s something that can be treated at home by inducing vomiting (not safe in all cases). Poison control is very quick, so if your dog does require a vet visit they will let you know as soon as possible. They even call you the next day to follow up.”
The vet in my country is expensive, but not as expensive as it seems to be where some of you live. Just paying to enter the clinic without them even doing something is INSANE to me. I feel sorry for all who suffer because of this crappy healthcare system in some countries :(
By saying you should not take a pet if you can’t afford it, I did not mean that you should let animals die on the street if you’re not in a financially great situation. Saving an animal that’s in need is a wonderful thing to do! I also did not meant that, if you loose your income, for example because of illness, you should give away your sweet pet-friend(s). Nor that you don’t deserve pets if you are poor. I did not want to offend people who are in a difficult financial situation either. I myself fell chronically severly ill three years ago and lost my job. I just meant that it’s not a great plan to give or get cute kittens or puppies for Christmas, without realizing that a pet is not a toy, that you take in a new familymember that is in your care and is dependent on you for their healthcare, and that it’s very important to have or save money and get an insurance for your pet. I do however realize now because of all of the comments, that in some countries healthcare as well as insurance is FREAKING expensive. I’m sorry for that! You and your pets deserve way more! I hope y’all find proper help from experts, one way or another, and that your pets will be allright ❤️🩹

Oh my, am I the ONLY one who’s DONE with all the questions about “should I call / take my pet to the vet” if clearly something’s up?! ☠️ 🤦🏼♀️
OF COURSE you should, IMMEDIATELY! When in doubt if it’s life threathening: ALWAYS better safe than sorry!! Don’t waste time by asking strangers about stuff they haven’t studied for please 🫠 At least CALL your vet to ask THEM whether you have to take your pet!
To all those people who say they can’t afford it: DO NOT TAKE A PET if you don’t have money for medical care!! Try to get an insurance too. It’s not that difficult. 🤷🏼♀️
So. The end of my rant. 😤
Have a nice day y’all, and please take care of the animals in your care. 👀❤️
