My kids elementary school doesn’t serve school lunch?

We moved to a new subdivision recently and I was shocked when I learned that our kids’ school doesn’t serve school lunch nor does it have a cafeteria! This is my first time experiencing this. Their previous school served hot breakfast and lunch even though I send them to school with a heavy lunch with no problem but it’s still nice to have the option. What their school does instead is they send home the option to order catering from local restaurants every other Friday. I’m just wondering if this is an Illinois suburban thing?
