Where are the large scale Otome Isekai works anymore?
This is more talking about the Japanese manga/anime industry. I'm talking the big epic world building adventure global trotting epics. Like Fushigi Yuugi (including Genbu Kaiden), Vision of Escaflowne, Inuyasha, Magic Knight Rayearth that had it all, fantasy, immersive worlds, love, action, world at stake, beautiful unique artwork personally crafted by an amazing mangaka etc.
Right now all I'm seeing are reincarnation stories where someone gets hit by a truck or something and gets reincarnated as the villain or someone else in a nondescript European setting and nothing much really happens.
In fact, big fantasy epic shojo stories are really hard to find right now. Something that doesn't even need to be isekai. Stuff like Basara and or even real world fantasy like Gakuen Alice etc. Is there a reason for that?
Yona of the Dawn is like the last big fantasy shojo epic and it started in 2009. Like it's almost a 20 year old manga at this point....
Has the anime industry changed so much that these works are no longer sought after? Or newer mangaka aren't interested in writing/drawing/ them? Or maybe publishers aren't willing to put them out there and fund them anymore? What is happening my people?
Oh by the way if anyone has any recs from their list (new or old) please let me know! Otome Isekai of course, but also the big epic shojo fantasy manga (and even manhwa too!)
