Maleficent should have been The Black Fairy in Season Six…
Some may agree. Some may not. But I always felt Season 4 genuinely cheapened Maleficent as a character. In the earlier seasons, she was imprisoned beneath the clock tower, but you had the impression that Regina did that because deep down she was afraid of her. I remember feeling we hadn’t seen what she was capable of fully, she was even referred to us a big evil by Rumple himself. So when she was turned into simply a witch like the others in season four, I honestly felt they took away from the character.
Had they kept her mysterious, but had her emerge as the Black Fairy, it would have created a perfect final battle for the show. Not only is she considered a big evil of Disney’s, it also would help tie her into the fairy backstory, as the original Maleficent in the sleeping beauty novel was a dark fairy. They kept this in the Disney movies also, including the Angelina Jolie movies. Her link to rumple could have remained, which would explain why he was afraid to enter the forbidden mountain in season 1’s finale flashbacks.
I honestly feel she’d have been a great antagonist and it would have felt like they truly were honouring the legacy of the Disney character more also, she’s often the antagonist of most of Disney’s properties these days. Anybody agree?
