Why do military academies exist in the USA when soldiers could just sign up for boot camp?

Genuine question. Military schools in the USA have 4-year degrees, but boot camp is usually a few months I think. Why do some prospective military members choose to go through a 4 year degree when they could sign up for a 6-week boot camp instead?
