Why did Goku forgive Vegeta for killing his grandpa? I don't like how toriyama just ignored this entire arc

Like when goku forgot he can read minds...or Launch. Why didn't goku ever try and avenge his grandpa? Toriyama was good at making people scream and punch each other but he just up and ignored so many story things
