Port Monmouth sighting

I was traveling down route 36 S in port Monmouth NJ with my girlfriend this evening around 10:30PM when i observed this flying object across the high way, i followed it and eventually turned down a near by culdesac. The object then lowered to the ground appeared to adjust itself then took off.
