census enumerator's perspective of the poverty in the draa taffilalt region

It’s only been three days into the census, and I’m already depressed . I used to believe that most people here were doing better by now and that extreme poverty was rare, confined mainly to remote rural areas.

I was wrong.

I was assigned to a very impoverished district (not rural), and I’ve witnessed living conditions that are truly heartbreaking. People are struggling in ways I didn’t expect.

Today, I met a father who is unemployed with two disabled children and no healthcare. It was really hard to witness

The issue is that when I knock on some doors, people assume I’m there to help them somehow , and they start to voice their frustrations to me. But I know that what iam doing probably won’t improve their lives in any way.

I’m no socialist , but witnessing this in the same country where others drive around in 700k imported cars is just wrong

If you’re doing well and have the means, please consider using your money to support those in need. It could make a significant difference in their lives.

Put your ego on the side and don't buy that Mercedes or bmw . Create jobs and help people
