why do celebs seem to get a pass?

(hailey bieber’s tweets) why does it seem as though influencers are getting cancelled left and right rn but celebs never get truly cancelled? i know she was only a teenager but idk even we knew better at that age.

awareness around racism has changed through the years but brooke and hailey’s tweets were both posted between 2012-2015. somehow there is an evolved standard with brooke & hailey is always given more leniency due to the context of the time they occurred, people saying that it was a “different era”.

i thought it could be because of the power and resources that cushion them like PR teams that can control narratives by crafting perfect apologies but hailey’s tweets have never been addressed not once not even through a lame reddit reply like ok-job.

why do people expect influencers to be more accountable and reflective but celebrities are seen as entertainers first and their racism is separate from their current public image?
