Do Untimely Claims Count Toward Maximum Out of Pocket?

So I have out-of-pocket expenses that exceed my maximum out of pocket costs - I typically wouldn't submit these expenses because I know they are not covered under my plan. However, I was hospitalized in December (tailbone injury) and charged $2.4k for the stay.

I know that I have met my maximum out of pocket amount, but I never submitted claims for those expenses. If I submit claims for those prior services, they should still count toward my maximum out of pocket expense even though they are untimely, correct? That's how I read the plan document - i.e. "Covered Expense" for purposes of the out-of-pocket maximum does not require a timely submitted claim.
