IT Advice as a Subcription

Hi all,

I started a small lifestyle business that offers IT advisory and implementation services across a plethora of areas. To better box the service: - it comes from an IT executive and in a way works as a fractional CIO/CTO - it moves away from the billable hour and SOWs and into a fixed fee per month, pause or cancel anytime, similar to a subscription - it allows for unlimited requests throughout the month but only one at a time - it avoids meetings as much as possible and works in a Kanban style (To Do, Doing, Done) - it is and intended to remain a one man show

While the concept is not new, it’s probably less applied at this level and more at an individual contributor level. What I found though throughout my career is that: - as an IT executive I had stages in my roles where I was stretched to the max between BAU and projects - I could not afford a completely new role on the team to help - I had to get a lot of people working in their own silos to move in the right direction and often times with just me seeing the big picture or able to zoom in and out - I would have appreciated to bring someone in for a few months, that just gets it from a technology perspective but also a business and stakeholder management side - that can just drive some of the initiatives, be very knowledgeable, and require minimum supervision

While you might say that situations like these are due to understaffing, poor hiring, poor stakeholder management, poor planning or even poor management, I would recommend a closer look at what the corporate (or even scale up) world is.

At the same time, I did not want just another consultant, who offers generic advice without domain knowledge and is not responsible for the implementation and outcomes and therefore has no skin in the game and just adds more to my plate.

Whether I can strike the right balance with this service, I truly don’t know, but I’d definitely hire myself for the job! What do you think in your own roles and experience? What would bring you value?

Appreciate any candid feedback.
