Why do you support Team Black? Really, why?
So I read the Book and watched the show and both have very differing depictions of the events. Of course the book is written from a different perspective with an unreliable narrator but I don't get why most people are on Team Black.
Yes, Rhaenyra is likeable, especially the younger version because she fulfills our society standards more and wants to break out of the patriarchal world she is trapped in. I get that. But......
- Her having bastard children shows her lack of political intelligence.
There never was really any need for her to have children at all. Since it didn't work with Laenor, why have heirs at all? Ageon would be next in line and by having illegitimate children she risks the stability of the dynasty. Yes, we look at it as less of a problem, but in a feudal world, legitimacy is pretty important for stability and continuation. She could literally just rule after Viserys dies and have her half-brother be her heir. And she could have had her affair since there is contraception available in this world.
- Dameon
Yes, he is likeable and played by an amazing actor but this dude literally killed his wife and then came up with the scheme to get Laenor out of the picture, but he still killed a dude for it. Just because we don't know this servant doesn't mean that Daemon should get an easy pass.
- Incest
It is a traditions for the tagaryans to keep the blood clean but it still feels and is wrong IMHO.
So these are my thoughts and feel free to comment on my take. I will be looking forward to your take on the situation.
EDIT: Thanks you all for your contributions and answers. I am now a bit more favorable to the blacks than before and am going to sleep now. Was really interesting to see your viewpoints. (Except one condescending guy, questioning if I read the Book, which I did.)
