Where to start

I am considering getting my license. I occasionally play airsoft and want to get deeper into it which may lead to running radios. I'm not sure if I even need a license but think that this is the technically legal way to do it and atleast want the info on how to. I am thinking that technician would meet what I want but am not sure and am seeing conflicting information saying I may as well go general as it's the same test or I can get both for the same price? Any help would be appreciated
