[NEWBIE] Recommendations for electric guitar for newbie
Hello!
Let me first say that I am not new to music as I sing, play piano and uke, and am teaching myself guitar on an acoustic. I have a Taylor GS Mini, which I love although I find it a bit difficult to play fingerstyle on it well due to its narrower-than-average nut width (1-11/16").
I am interested in buying an electric guitar to build my collection and have been eyeing a Squier Classic Vibe '50s stratocaster for my first electric. I like that it's within my budget (for guitar and amp) and that it's lightweight (I am a petite female). However, I noticed that the nut width is 1.65", which is smaller than my Taylor. Now, I am new to guitar, having only played for about a year, so I don't know if a narrower nut width on an electric guitar has any impact on fingerpicking. I notice that, in general, electric guitars have narrower nut widths than acoustic guitars, so perhaps it's not something I need to be concerned about.
Ideally, my first electric guitar would be lightweight, within my budget (around $600 with amp), and versatile for strumming and fingerpicking. Thank you kindly for any advice and recommendations--they will be very much appreciated! Cheers!
