black myth wukong sold 20million copies and elden ring 28million?

I just checked the sales number on google and it says black myth wukong has sold over 20 million copies and elden ring has sold 28 million. how did black myth sold so much? i know elden ring still has sold 8 million more but looking at the release dates there should be a huge difference between them. i really dont understand how is this possible like elden has so much effort put into it. not hating on black myth wukong in any way tho its a good game. still it makes me think does denovu affect the sales by a huge margin? maybe elden ring suffered from piracy? what do you guys think.
