Saying you won’t debate someone cause they use “debate tactics” is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard

Saying you won’t debate someone cause they use debate tactics just makes you sound like a pussy. What even is the defense here? Oh, this person has carefully thought out their positions and is able to formulate them in a way that makes my position sound incoherent. Oh, this person is able to deconstruct my worldview in a way that points out its inconsistencies. Oh, this person can use hypotheticals to truly test the limits of my beliefs and where I would stand at the extreme ends of what my position is.

It just makes no sense to me and imo just makes you sound like a pussy. If your belief is truly the correct belief no amount of “debate bro” tactics should discredit it and when these people have such a high conviction for what they say it feels odd that they wouldn’t like to defend those positions in the “marketplace of ideas”.

Anyone wanna debate bro steelman this position for me and make it sound like these people aren’t just scared to have their ideas tested in a way that would make them look stupid?
