The elegant office was silent except for the faint ticking of a clock on the wall. I stood across from my father’s expansive desk, my sharp eyes watching him as he finished signing a document. He didn’t often call for me personally, which made this meeting all the more significant.
He put his pen down, finally meeting my gaze with a neutral expression. “It’s done,” he said simply. “You’ve been officially enrolled in the Advanced Nurturing High School.”
I nodded, unsurprised. I knew this day would come. My father had always intended for me to attend the institution he had founded, to use its unique system to hone my abilities.
“You’ll be in Class 1-D” he continued, almost casually.
The words hit me like a jolt of electricity. My composed facade slipped for a brief moment as my brows knit together in surprise. “Class 1-D?” I repeated, trying to understand his motive “How come?”
He leaned back in his chair, steepling his fingers seemingly studying my reaction. “You already know how the school’s system works, Hina. The Advanced Nurturing High School isn’t a place where everything is handed to you on a silver platter. Your placement in Class D is intentional—a handicap, if you will.”
“A handicap?” I echoed, my voice tinged with frustration. “You’re saying this is some kind of test?”
“Exactly,” he said with acalm but firm tone. “You’ve had the advantage of knowing how this institution operates for years. You understand the rules, the points system, and the importance of strategy better than any other first-year. Starting in Class D will force you to prove your worth—to show that you can rise to the top despite the odds.”
I clenched my fist, trying to keep my expression neutral though irritation simmered beneath the surface. “And if I fail?”
“You won’t,” my father said confidently, dismissing the notion entirely. “I wouldn’t have put you in this position if I doubted your capabilities. You are my daughter, you will succeed.”
The weight of his expectations settled heavily on my shoulders, as it always did. I straightened myself, masking my irritation with an air of poise. “Is that all you wanted to discuss?” I asked with a cool and measured tone.
“No,” he replied, his voice dropping slightly, signaling the importance of what he was about to say next. “There’s one more matter to address. A specific individual at the school who warrants your attention.”
I tilted my head slightly as my curiosity piqued. “Who?”
“Kiyotaka Ayanokoji” he sead without hesitation.
The name sparked immediate recognition. I had heard whispers of Ayanokoji before, both through my father’s occasional remarks and from my own investigations. The enigmatic student was said to be brilliant, but his true nature is shrouded in secrecy.
My father leaned forward slightly, his gaze piercing. “Ayanokoji is a product of the White Room—an unparalleled facility for cultivating excellence. He’s the pinnacle of their achievements. If anyone at this school can pose a legitimate challenge to you, it’s him.”
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his remarks. “And what do you want me to do about him?”
“Keep an eye on him, observe his movements, his alliances, and his strategies. Challenge him, if the opportunity presents itself, but only if it aligns with your own goals. The rivalry between him and Rokusuke Koenji will likely take action this year, and I don’t want you interfering with that unless absolutely necessary.”
“Koenji?” I asked as my lips curving into a faint smirk. “You’re letting him play this game too? Sounds like this year is shaping up to be quite eventful.”
My father’s expression remained serious. “Koenji is an unpredictable variable. While his goals align with mine for now, I have no illusions about his loyalty.
I considered this for a moment, my mind already racing with possibilities. My father’s words had stung, but the challenge also ignited a spark of determination within me. If he want me to prove myself, i will. And if Ayanokoji truly was as formidable as my father believed, then he might even be worthy of my attention.
“Understood,” I sead with a steady tone. “But I’ll approach him on my own terms. If you want results, you’ll have to let me handle this my way.”
My father’s lips curved into the faintest hint of a smile. “Very well, I expected nothing less from you.”
I turned to leave, letting my mind plott my next steps. As I reached the door I paused, glancing back over my shoulder. “You’ve placed a lot of faith in me father, and I will make sure to honor it".
With that, I stepped out of the office, closing the door behind me, knowing that failure isn’t an option.
