I think the FO's thinking with this Naylor trade is very obvious.

They were never gonna extend Naylor into FA years, so for a year of Josh they get a pitcher they like and feel can extract a lot out of in Cecconi (who, btw, fits their mold perfectly and has a lot of arm talent, not to mention lots of team control). They feel like they can replace Naylor's production with Santana, who was actually better than Josh last year, they have Manzardo ready for full-time ABs, and they get the 72nd overall pick on top of it.

It's cold, but it makes sense. They've been winning trades for a long time, and Cecconi is right up their alley. Give them time to see what they do with him.
