Demotion from Personnel Specialist to Office Technician

I was hired on as a Personnel Specialist (new-to-state) back in April and am feeling very overwhelmed and discouraged.. I understand that I'd be stupid to quit before meeting probation but would it look bad if I decided to to search for an Office Techician position in a different field of work and work my way up, outside of HR? (After prob). I have 8 years administrative experience and have gained a great deal of skills with bookkeeping, scheduling, reporting, basic accounting, etc. Two years of private sector HR scored me this position with the state but being a PS in Transactions is not what I want to do as a carreer.. Has anyone been in this position before? And what path did you take to find the right fit for yourself?
