If Luigi ran off to another country...would he have gotten away with it?

At the time of arrest, police said Luigi wasn't even a suspect. I'm wondering if he could have booked a flight somewhere (ideally somewhere where Americans or American news isn't big) and he hangs out for a bit until the sensation dies down a bit. This guy has already been a digital nomad and also fits the build of the type of people that are always backpacking and in hostels anyways.

Then by the time he comes back to the US, the average person isn't on the hunt for him. The average person, like the McDonald's customer and employees have forgotten and moved on from this news.

Obviously he would still be on the wanted list...but we all know the cops aren't that good at their job.
