Wholesome pickup game I'll never forget

Im 37 ane 6'6" plus and have had a number of lower body injuries. I used to play in HS and tons of pickup over the years, but my knees have given me issues and haven't played much at all the last 5+ years. I've been shooting around again lately for fun and enjoying it.

Last weekend at the local rec center a 13 year old was shooting on the other side of the court and his mom was helping with some drills. He had a good shot for his age and the Mom was putting him through the paces. A couple of high school kids around 16-17 years old came in and asked if we want to run 21 or 2s.

I suggested me and the kid take on the 2 high schoolers 2 on 2. Within minutes, one of the high schoolers was going at me hard and trash talking, fouling me etc. I tell him I'm not looking to go full speed, his answer "you've got to always leave it all on the court". Eye roll.

Okay so we're playing make it take it 2s and 3s to 21. I get us a layup on a post move but we're down 2-6. I have basically decided I'm mostly going to feed my 13 year old teammate. I teach him how to run give and go, set him screens, drive and kick, kid hits some shots and I get another bucket and we tie it at 13 after I dime him up with a backdoor bounce pass.

I hit a jumper to make it 15-13, then drive and kick to my little buddy for back to back open 3s which he just drains and we win thr game 21-18. The high school kids can't believe it, little man's confidence is sky high.

He leaves with his mom and she thanks me, I tell him he played great and to keep working on his game. He tells me I am like Dirk Nowitzki which is about the coolest thing a 13 year old could say to me. We both left all smiles and I'm so glad I could help create that experience for the kid.
