does anyone else have an easier time understanding animal body language than human body language?

i know autistic people can often feel more connected and comfortable around animals than people, including myself. i’m okay (i think?) at deciphering human body language a lot of the time through years of masking, but i have always been naturally better at understanding animal body language. i think part of the reason is because they’re just as direct as i am. backing away, ears back = i need space. sniffing, coming closer, turning back away = i’m trusting you but i’m cautious. the weird thing is that i feel like where i fall behind my peers in understanding and appropriately responding to human body language, i’m also usually better at understanding/responding to animal body language than my neurotypical peers. is this a thing amongst some autistic people?
