Growing up with hyperlexia and ability to figure out unknown/new vocabulary words
Grew up as a typical bookworm. Nose buried in books and lost to the world.
That being said, has anyone else experienced the ability to learn or figure out new vocabulary words by context alone without looking up the definition first?
I’ve been able to do this many times in various situations as a child and felt like it was a super power.
Now I’m old, busy with life and I don’t read as much.
ETA: I just remembered something that may be or may not be related and wanted to include it in case. What about pronouncing new words correctly the first time while reading?
Another ETA: Those with hyperlexia, do you have difficulties with math? I haven’t been diagnosed, but I am confident that I have dyscalculia. Numbers are extremely confusing and I cannot retain what was taught to me even after repeating remedial math courses; I still forget. It’s embarrassing, but I don’t even know what 9x7 is and I’m 41 years old.
