L-Methamphetamine neurotoxicity?

Okay, so, I am aware that D-methamphetamine is almost entirely responsible for the desired effects, and virtually all of the CNS effects from a pharmacological standpoint.

But, I cannot find an answer to this question online: is the DA release what is responsible for methamphetamine's neurotoxicity? Or is this due to oxidative stress /toxicity of metabolites? If it is the latter, does the 'L' isomer also potentially cause neurotoxicity?

If so, does anyone know to what degree?

tl;dr: If one were to take strictly the 'L' isomer of methamphetamine, would one be at risk of potential neurotoxicity?
